Easy living in
Bali in the future Bali 30/10/2003 This past week a guest at our private luxury villas provided us with a glimpse into the near future of Bali’s communications. In this new age many individuals are beginning to realize that it is not necessary for them to spend much time at their offices in able for them to run a successful business. Many are now living their dream
of traveling and staying at luxury homes and villas in exotic locations such as Bali. At the same time, they are in full control of their business through high-speed internet connections. The day of postage stamps and waiting for the mail is over. "The days of postage stamps and waiting for the mail is over". We, for example have not used a postage stamp in years to operate a huge real estate organization. Gone also is the age-old excuse the cheque is in the mail. In fact, few foreign companies will send or accept Indonesia bank cheques. Modern highly efficient banks such Bank Ambro will handle any sum of money transferred in or out of their banks with a simple phone call and fax follow-up. In addition, currency exchanges can be handled the same way. No need to even leave your home to exchange any major currency. With the advent of high speed, broadband internet
modern businesspersons or individuals can send newsletters or company advertising to millions of potential clients in less than 10 minutes.
Monthly statements and invoices can also be handled in less than a minute. Several companies are already offering high-speed broadband internet to most locations in Bali. We have a 62 kps connection at our office, which is also wired into our luxury villas allowing Consultants, Attorneys, Journalists and many other high profile professionals to sit by the pool and take care of business.
These new high tech travelers can even communicate with their family around the world without even the cost of a telephone call. Recently an American who works on Wall Street in New York showed us how he has a free account set up with America On Line (A.O.L.) which allowed him to borrow one of our computers, sit in our office, and communicate with his children online directly
without the use o f a chat room. We watched in awe as he talked to his 10-year- old as if he was right in the room. Best of all it cost him nothing. These almost instantaneous communications can take place because of our broadband connection provided by Global Net in Seminyak. It is expensive but well worth the money.
Other companies are also now offering broadband connections to most locations in Southern Bali. The most interesting news was provided to us another villa guest this week who revealed that he was here to set up a new 3 G mobile service. He explained that when this new service is operation in approximately two years any one with a 3G capable cell phone will be able to have broadband internet any where they can receive a signal. In the future, you will be able to sit on Sanur beach and send streaming video of the Jukungs and Jet Skis going by back to your friends or relatives at home.
More important is that locations that have poor telephone connections now will simply need to purchase 3 G mobile and they can receive internet at 128 KPS in most places in Bali. In the future, business executives who have day- dreamed of leaving the rat race and living in luxury with their $50.00 a month maid and $6.00 per hour massage in a $1,000 a month three bedroom villa with swimming pool can now achieve it. At the same time, they can manage their business from thousands of miles away. In addition, their friends and children simply need to
pick up a telephone and reach them whether they have gone fishing, sailing, or trekking. This is one of the main reasons the demand for homes and land especially beachfront land has been increasing exponentially. Even the guest that furnished this exciting news about the future is moving his family and a large portion of his business to Bali. Why live in a smog filled dangerous big city when you can enjoy the fresh air and friendly people of Bali. Why not live on the Island of the
gods which was just voted by travel and Leisure Magazine and Time magazines sophisticated readers as "The Favorite Holiday Designation” We have to sign off now and send out an email to several thousand Indonesian and Expatriate professionals alerting them to our Seminars held this week in Jakarta.
